Annotated Bibliography--Getting Started

In a few weeks, you will be writing an annotated bibliography that includes five resources. This highly selective list will be culled from a larger pool of materials that you’ve skimmed, evaluated, and either rejected or retained. Although you will be able to include some websites and journal articles in the final bibliography, this preliminary exercise is restricted to books and videos in the Shasta College collection. For this exercise, you are asked to research two topics. In a few weeks, you will select one of these topics for more in depth research.

Think of two topics that interest you. For each topic, list possible keywords or subject headings and search WEBCATalog to find:

  1. At least two books—one should contain primary source material
  2. One article from a reference book or specialized encyclopedia article
  3. One video.
Use the tables below to record bibliographic details (author, title, publisher, edition, year) and call number for each resource found. Although our library holds over 70,000 items and is growing daily, our video and reference collections are small. If you are unable to find an item in any of the three categories, ask the reference librarian for assistance.
