Locating music videos or dvds:

• Select Library Catalog from the Library's web page.
• Click on Power Search.
• Enter search term (ex.  jazz) in the words or phrase box.
• Scroll down and select VIDEOS: Video Materials: VHS, DVD from the Location box.  Click on Search.
• Repeat search with different search terms.

Online eBooks are electronic versions of printed books.  The Shasta College Library's eBook collection is purchased through netLibrary and ABC-CLIO and  includes nearly 18,500 titles.  These are available at no charge to the College's registered students and staff.  The Internet also hosts collections of free ebooks.  These are usually older works no longer protected by copyright.

Locating  Music Online eBooks:

• Select Library Catalog from the Library's web page.
• Click on Power Search.
• Enter search term (ex. music) in the words or phrase box.

Scroll down and select Online BK-Online Books from the type box.  Click on Search.
• Repeat search with different search terms.
• Online eBook is read by clicking on the URL button in the Full Details box.

The Library also subscribes to over 50 databases to help you locate magazine and newspaper articles.  The following contain current, full text articles on music:

• The Ebsco family of databases

Ebsco's databases include general interest, professional, and academic resources that contain the full text of articles or links to the articles online. Multiple databases can be searched simultaneously. Ebsco databases with strong coverage of music include:
• Academic Search Premier.  Multi-disciplinary database containing the full text of articles from nearly 4,000 peer- reviewed journals.
• Masterfile Premier. Multi-disciplinary database containing the full text of articles from over 2,000 general interest magazines and reference works.  Most of the resources are drawn from popular literature.
• American Humanities Index. Bibliographic citations (with some links to full text) of articles published in literary, scholarly, and creative journals.
• American National Biography

Authored biographies of Americans of achievement. Each entry contains a chronological portrait, annotated biblography,
and links to web pages for further study.

Anybody can publish anything on the web.  How can you rapidly find reliable information? The LII is a classified list of over 10,000 web sites. These sites have been previewed by librarians (and if you can't trust a librarian, who can you trust?) and are regularly updated.  Scroll down to Arts, Crafts, and Humanities, click on Music and scan the 30+ subject headings for a topic of interest.
 
• Aria Database - http://www.aria-database.com/

Close to 1000 arias - searchable by name, opera, language, composer, voice type, range, keyword, and whether there is a sound file (MIDI), translation, or text available. The database includes the complete operatic arias of Verdi, Mozart, and Puccini as  well as selections from more than 40 other composers. The site also includes a database of all characters from operas included in the Aria Database, with a short description, the arias they sing, and the creator of the role (if known). Finally, there is an annotated collection of links to opera related sites and a list of links to opera houses and companies.
• ChoralNet - http://www.choralnet.org/

Subtitled The Internet Center for Choral Music, this is a first stop for anyone    directing or singing in choirs. Also available in French, German, and Spanish.

Reviews of over 3,000 cds, dvds and books.  Information on classical music and composers. Updated, indexed, and searchable.
• Essentials of Music - http://www.essentialsofmusic.com/

This site offers an introduction to classical music built around Sony's Essential Classics music series. It features  Eras, Composers, and a Glossary. Eras covers the six main periods in classical music history, discussing historical themes, musical context, style, and major composers. Composers includes brief biographies and works of nearly 70 composers. Glossary provides 200 terms with examples (recordings or pictures). It also includes  almost 200 excerpts from the series in RealPlayer format. From the W.W. Norton & Company and Sony Classical Music.

Detailed information, including performance histories, synopses, libretti, discographies, pictures, and more on more than 250 operas and 100 composers. Also includes information on librettists, opera companies, opera people, other opera Web sites, and selected reviews.
• San Francisco Classical Voice - http://www.sfcv.org/

Developed and edited by San Francisco Chronicle Music Critic Emeritus, Robert  Commanday, this attractive new site, with its broad, in-depth coverage of the Bay Area classical music scene, should become an immediate priority with music lovers. It includes five to ten reviews weekly, (by a well selected group of local contributors), extensive calendar listings, and stimulating editorials.
