SHASTA
COLLEGE LIBRARY
Using the Magazines
and Periodicals Database to Find Articles
-
Access the Magazines and Periodicals
database:
-
Point your browser to the Library’s
home page: http://library.shastacollege.edu.
-
Click the Online Research Databases
link.
-
In the table, locate the row listing
Magazines
and Periodicals (EBSCOhost).
-
If you are accessing the database from
any Shasta College location, click the link marked On Campus Access
and begin your search.
-
If you are logging on from a remote
location, click the Off Campus Access link and follow these directions:
-
Enter the barcode number on the back
of your library card in to the box.
-
Click the Login.
-
Pick a topic for your paper. Think broadly
and then narrow down your ideas. If you find too much information you can
become more specific later.
-
In the Find box type the terms
you wish to search. For example:
-
Click the Search button to retrieve
your articles.
-
To access an article, click its title
or the Page icon. The Page icon indicates that the full, complete
text of the article can be retrieved. If you do not see the Page icon,
you will only receive a citation to that article, not the complete text.
-
If you find too many articles you can
limit your search to retrieve only full text articles, rather than retrieving
both full text and citations, by clicking in the Full Text box on
the main search screen. Also try adding additional terms to narrow your
search.
-
Articles can be printed, downloaded
(to a diskette only in the Library), or sent to an email account. Click
the Print, Email, or Save button for more information.
-
Clicking the Search Web Links
button will direct you to related material on the Web.
