EBSCOHost Databases

An academic, multidisciplinary database that contains indexing for nearly 8,200 publications, with full text for nearly 4,700 of those titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,000 titles. Focuses on the many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated approaches to health care and wellness. It offers libraries an immediate resource of full text articles, from 180 international and often peer-reviewed journals, reports, proceedings and association & consumer newsletters. American National Biography


Provides biographical portraits of over 18,000 no-longer-living individuals from all walks of American life, from the well known to the obscure, who have influenced and shaped American history and culture.  Published by the Oxford University Press, the ANB includes thousands of illustrations and over 80,000 hyperlink cross-references and links to other websites.


America's Newspapers

Includes 600+ full text newspapers, which are all the complete electronic record of edition as received from the publisher. Notable local holdings include The Redding Record Searchlight, The Red Bluff Daily News, and Chico Enterprise Record. The easy to use map-based interface allows flexible searching by paper, state, and region. This collection is updated daily and archives do not drop off as content is added. Each paper is clearly marked so students will know what the archived content is for each paper. America's Newspapers features a wide variety of local, national and international source types, including statistics, verbatim quotes, facts, analysis, historical perspectives, obituaries and more.

A collection of art images and descriptive information of over 700,000 items as well as software tools to search and store images from the collection for research and/or teaching. The images are drawn from art, architecture and archeology with contributions from museums, individual photographers, scholars, special collections, libraries and photo archives. Britannica Online

Contains short and book-length articles on every subject in over 73,000 entries.  Provides links to thousands of web sites reviewed by Britannica editors for quality and appropriateness.  Also provides access to Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary and Thesaurus with definitions, pronunciation guides, word histories, synonyms, and antonyms.
 

EBSCOHost Databases

Provides full text for nearly 8,800 serials, some back to 1965 and searchable cited references back as far as 1998. Covers all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance, and economics. Additional full text, non-journal content includes market research reports, industry reports, country reports, company profiles and SWOT analyses.  Updated daily.

A virtual library representing 34,673 college catalogs in full cover-to-cover, original page format.  Includes 2-year, 4-year, graduate, professional and international schools. 


CountryWatch

Up-to-date news and information on the 192 countries of the world. Each “Country Review” is revised annually and comprised of a concise historical/political/economic overview of the featured country. Additional resources include “County Wire,” a digest of daily newspaper articles from the featured country, a currency converter, and international comparisons of key political and economic indicators.

Online access to all Historic Documents volumes (1972 – 2003) in one searchable online resource providing important commentary on each year’s key events.

Reports on the world’s most powerful legislative body on a weekly basis. Covers virtually every act of Congress. Researchers can track legislation and floor action, major news events, committees and subcommittees and backroom maneuvering. Archives date from 1983 to present.

EBSCOHost Databases


Offers in-depth information on a variety of topics relating to animals. The database consists of indexing, abstracts, and full text records describing the nature and habitat of familiar animals. Within some of the full text, image links are available for the Windows client.

®, the Educational Resource Information Center, provides access to education literature and resources. The database provides access to information from journals included in the Current Index of Journals in Education and Resources in Education Index. A collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles that focus on the environmental effects of individuals, corporations, local/national governments, and what can be done at each level to minimize these effects.  Multidisciplinary by nature, connections are drawn between the environment and a variety of disciplines such as agriculture, education, law, health and technology.  Topics in include global climate change, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling and more. There is indexing and abstracts for approximately 384,000 records plus Open Access full text for more than 4,700 records.

An index to English language personal narratives, including letters, diaries, memoirs, autobiographies, and oral histories. Working with archives, repositories, publishers, and individuals, the indexers at Alexander Street Press have indexed first person narratives from hundreds of published volumes—those that are publicly available on the Web and those that are held by repositories and archives around the world. Includes access to the content in British and Irish women’s letters and diaries; North American women’s letters and diaries; American Civil War letters and diaries; and North American Immigrant Letters.


LexisNexis®  Academic

Includes over 6,000 titles covering general news, business, legal research, reference and medicine. The majority of the titles on LexisNexis Academic are available in full text, with a limited number available in abstract form. The service covers newspapers, magazines, wire services, federal and state court opinions, federal and state statutes, federal regulations, and SEC filings such as 10-K’s, 10-Q’s and their exhibits. News information is updated daily and wire services several times daily. Research areas in LexisNexis Academic cover top news, general news topics, and news transcripts; non-English language news sources; company, industry, and market news; legal news; company financial information; general medical and health topics and medical abstracts; accounting, auditing, and tax information; law reviews; federal case law; U.S. Code; and state legal research.


Literature Resource Center


A complete literature reference database designed for both the undergraduate and graduate student providing information on literary figures from all time periods writing in such genres as fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, history, journalism, and more.  The foundation of the Literature Resource Center is built on three author databases: Contemporary Authors Online, offering biographical coverage of more than 130,000 writers; Contemporary Literary Criticism Select, featuring entries on all authors appearing in CLC since vol. 95 of the print series and complete profiles of 266 most studied authors from editions prior to vol. 95; and Dictionary of Literary Biography Online, containing more than 11,700 biocritical essays on authors and their works written by academic scholars.  The Literature Resource Center also includes selected full text, excerpted, and commissioned critical material from Gale's Literature Criticism and For Students series. Designed specifically for high school libraries and contains full text for more than 700 popular high school magazines including America’s Civil War, American Heritage, American History, Archaeology, Astronomy, Bioscience, Careers & Colleges, Civil War Times, Congressional Digest, Discover, Economist, History Today, Nation, National Review, New Republic, New Scientist, Popular Science, Science News, Scientific American, Smithsonian, World War II, etc. All full text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Full text is also available for 84,774 biographies and 100,554 primary source documents. Also contains 518 pamphlets, more than 350 reference books (including the Columbia Encyclopedia, the CIA World Fact Book and World Almanac & Book of Facts), an Image Collection of 202,164 photos, maps & flags, color PDFs and expanded full text backfiles (back to 1975) for key magazines. MAS Ultra (School Edition) also includes the Our States reference book series from Great Neck Publishing, a collection made up of 54 titles on each of the states, commonwealths and territories in the United States. Created by the National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE uses MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) indexing with tree numbers, tree hierarchy and explosion capabilities to search abstracts from over 4,800 current biomedical journals. Included are citations from Index Medicus, International Nursing Index, Index to Dental Literature, HISTLINE, SPACELINE, PREMEDLINE®, AIDSLINE®, BIOETHICSLINE®, and HealthSTAR®.


MEDLINEplus


Consumer health database that directs users to information to help answer health questions. MedlinePlus brings together authoritative information from NLM, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other government agencies and health-related organizations. Preformulated MEDLINE searches are included in MedlinePlus and give easy access to medical journal articles. MedlinePlus also has extensive information about drugs, an illustrated medical encyclopedia, interactive patient tutorials, and the latest health news.

Designed to offer current news pertaining to all branches of the military and government, this database offers a thorough collection of periodicals, academic journals and other content pertinent to the increasing needs of these sites. The Military & Government Collection™ provides full text for nearly 300 journals and periodicals. The database also includes full text for 245 pamphlets and offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 400 titles. Publications covered in this database include Air Force Comptroller, Army Reserve Magazine, Defence Studies, JFQ: Joint Force Quarterly, Military Technology, National Review, Combat Edge, FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin, Foreign Affairs, Naval Forces, and many more. New York Times


Complete newspaper cover-to-cover with full-page and article images in downloadable PDF.  Covers The New York Times from its first issue in 1851 through 2003. Users can search and view article images and full-page images, page through issues, and search via a variety of methods. Please refer to Proquest National Newspapers (below) for New York Times coverage from 2004 to present.

Opposing Viewpoints


Provides information on on-going controversies and today’s hot topics. This database is the online counterpart of the Opposing Viewpoints social issues series published by Greenhaven Press (nearly 200 volumes of which are currently held in the Shasta College Library’s bricks and mortar collection).  Presents facts as well as the arguments and professional affiliations of each topic's proponents and detractors. PubMed


Search engine for the National Library of Medicine’s vast Medline database. Medline provides abstracts or summaries of the articles that it indexes. PubMed is not a full text database. It focuses on biomedical research articles, but also covers journals in nursing and other allied health disciplines. PubMed also provides full coverage of the related biomedical sciences, such as biochemistry and cell biology.

A comprehensive database of more than 300 full text journals covering topics such as world religions, major denominations, biblical studies, religious history, epistemology, political philosophy, philosophy of language, moral philosophy and the history of philosophy.


Scribner Writers Series


Provides more than 1,800 original bio-critical essays on authors of all nationalities and time periods. Each essay includes a concise introductory preface and a biography placing the author’s work within a personal and historical framework. Many authors are seen from multiple perspectives in two, three, or even four essays, providing a broad biographical/critical overview as well as specialized treatments. Each essay averages 15-20 pages in length.

SIRS Researcher®


A general reference database containing full-text articles exploring social, scientific, health, historic, business, economic, political and global issues. Articles and graphics are selected from 1,600 domestic and international publications and are indexed primarily according to Library of Congress subject headings. An excellent resource for teaching critical thinking and information literacy skills.


Twayne's Authors Series


A database of literary criticism by scholars on hundreds of years of literature from Aristophanes to Bharati Mukherjee. It provides critical introductions to the lives and works of writers, to the history and influence of literary movements, and the development of literary genres. Primarily devoted to critical interpretation and discussion of an author's works, these studies take account of major literary trends and important contributions to scholarship and criticism, and provide new critical insights and original points of view.
The Twayne’s Authors Series comprises 600 Twayne’s monographs: 200 from Twayne’s US Authors, 200 from Twayne’s English authors, and 200 from Twayne’s World Authors.

New to the Library.Vocational Biographies


Collection of over 1,100 Career Biographies that include: education, training, and licensing requirements, job outlook, working conditions, and a job-shadow of a typical work day.  Each Career Biography is comprised of a four to six page narrative by a practitioner of the featured career. The database may be searched by keyword or browsed through a list of career pathways and career clusters assigned by the database.
 


World Data Analyst


Encyclopedia Britannica’s
World Data Analyst offers statistical portraits of the countries of the world and tools for making comparative charts and tables.  Country Snapshots are concise, two page reports that feature key economic, social, and political indicators. Current Comparisons permits cross-country analysis of key economic and social indicators.
